An after School Yellow and Glossy Twitch!

On Friday, Rutland Water Osprey team came to talk to my year at school about the dangers that Ospreys face when  they are out of the U.K, Lucy McRobert was talking with the help of a Volunteer, and just before Lucy said 'Lesser Yellowlegs a Frampton Marsh this afternoon you can come if you want!'. So as soon as I got home it wasn't 'Hi mum' but more of a 'Can I go with Rob Lambert and Lucy to see a rare American wader in Lincolnshire pleeeease!!!'.

So I arrived at Rob Lamberts house for 5:45pm, and got quizzed on rare birds of the Scilly Isles within the 90's got most of them wrong, but of we went to Frampton Marsh to hopefully see a Lesser Yellowleg and a Glossy Ibis which had been hanging around for a while.

Barn Owl Hunting

When we arrived thier was only 3 birders looking for this Yellowleg but it hadn't been seen for 30mins, so we decided to go onto the sea wall hopefully to get better light. but we got the opposite, silhouette birds at one stage we thought we had it but as soon as you find an interesting bird in vanishes into long grass!!! A very nice surprise as a Barn owl came flying past us and other species included; Avocet, Black Tailed Godwit, Snipe and one Green Sandpiper (other birds where present but too distant to distinguish). Suddenly people at the car park start waving madly at us, so we rushed down thier and their the beauty was about 200 metres away too distant for a picture then it got disturbed by a Hare, flew straight over us and landed no more than 30 foot!!!

After watching the beauty for 30mins we decided to head back and on the way meet up with Frampton Marsh's Warden John Badley, so we drove on along the road until we got told where people had seen the Glossy Ibis so Rob and Lucy scanned the distances and suddenly I say 'its straight in front of us' about  40 feet away!! Closer than the one I saw earlier in the year at Rutland Water (Click on this link).

After we headed to John Badley's house and had some of the best toasted scones I've had, also a Jay perched outside and John will be at the Birdfair on the RSPB stand on Friday so pop down and say hi, I will be at the Birdfair all 3 days see you thier.

Thank You to Rob Lambert and Lucy McRobert for taking me to Frampton Marsh see you soon.
